What is a Fab Lab

Fab Lab is short for fabrication laboratory. Think of as being an innovation center with an emphasis rapid prototyping. Fab Labs are small-scale workspaces offering digital fabrication for those with an entrepreneurial spirit. This at both the personal and professional development level. Fabrication labs are equipped with a host of computer controlled tools that work with different materials, which accelerate the "making" most anything. This includes technology-enabled products generally perceived as limited to mass production. The target market for these facilities are for individuals or small companies to create devices for themselves or prototype products. Offing low cost or even free access to individual has the potential to empower almost anyone a path forward in becoming a product producer at some level. The fab lab movement is often found in Makerspace's such as Tinkersmiths. This DYI approach relies on open source hardware, open source software, along with sharing philosophies.
